I recently uploaded a solo studio album I created in Austin, Texas between 1988 and 1990 to YouTube. It was originally recorded digitally then mixed down and reproduced in cassette (1990 was just before CDs were a thing). Many years later, I transferred the album's songs to digital MP3s and remixed them.
I recorded the album between the ages of 18 and 20 years old, which was six years before I became a Christian. I consider this audio/musical testimony of who and where I was at that time: young, creative, emotional, ambitious, and in the middle of establishing who I would become. I had just started having (romantic) relationships which almost always leads to songwriting. There is no swearing or anything overtly lewd on this album. It ranged from heavy pop to country-esque to dance-y to very experimental.
This passion project allowed me to collaborate with some talented musicians and people. In additional, I wrote all the lyrics and sang lead vocals on all of the songs. I played a number of instruments: electric bass guitar on all but three songs ("Robin," "Jody's Dream" and "Fever Dream"), keyboards/synthesizers on all but one song ("Jody's Dream"), intro and rhythm guitar on “Fever Dream,” and I programmed electronic drums on all songs except "Juxtaposition Fantasia."
Please understand: I don't share this to promote sin; I share it to convey the change Jesus made in my life. I was an idealistic young man at the time, trying to decide how I felt about abortion and other political matters (on one song), lustful, vengeful, confused (even self-tortured), and all I wanted was to find a soulmate. A lot of people are like that.
But the Lord had mercy on me and turned me around. A year after I finished this album, I met Angel, the woman who would become my wife. Not long after that, we became good friends and six months later, I asked her to be my girlfriend. A few months after that, she proposed to me and I accepted. We married two and a half years later in 1995. She gave her life to Jesus Christ two weeks before our first son was born. Four months after that, I saw my own need for the Lord and asked Him to be my Savior in January 1996. In that moment, I was spiritually reborn and now I write Christian fiction and perform music for my God and Savior.
This album has not been for sale since the early 1990s. It is purely for entertainment purposes. I hope you enjoy it. I know it's really rough in places, more album-length demo than polished production. I imagine opinions will vary even from song to song. But it's very honest and heartfelt. That's what I wanted at the time.

A lot has gone on in the last month!
Choosing Life: A Pro-Life Anthology released on April 20, 2026 on a variety of platforms in both print and ebook versions.
You can access the full retailer list (and formats, including hard cover) on this site's Anthologies page.
I have been looking at other platforms to continue this blog. As much as I've loved maintaining Steadham's Speculations (and before that, "The Author Speculates") on this website since I first created it in 2018, it hasn't reached a large audience (though I am delighted with the readers I have. You're awesome!). I've tried various tools such as the Mailerlite newsletter, social media, and then Substack. Now, I'm trying Ghost.
I have ended my plan with Mailerlite but I will be keeping Substack.

A thing I learned recently as an author: I'm working on the third book in a Christian dystopian sci-fi series which starts in the past for the first half of the book and continues in the present day for the second half. I write the whole first draft, sit on it for months, make little edits, go back for a deeper dive on revisions, make progress...and then I suddenly realize I have two books in front of me instead of just one! So, each half needs to be its own book.
This isn't exactly a problem; it's just a surprise to me. So, Book Three is now going to be a prequel that's actually part of the main series. And the second half will now be Book Four. Obviously, I have a lot more writing to do on each of them. That's cool.
Introducing Book Three: Forging Utopia
I'm actually pretty excited about it because now we'll get immersed into the early days of the alien invasion and what led to the rise of the human Resistance. And it's pretty compelling stuff!
Happy little accidents, huh? Lol!

Looking beyond the Choosing Life anthology release, my next release will be Sustaining Utopia, Book One in The Pavfarah Utopia Series (which will be Christian dystopian science fiction). I've written the book blurb (below):
-------
Updated 3/3/26
“He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” – Psalms 46: 9-11 (KJV)
In 1968, a star-faring fleet of ships bearing the last of the Fentawnii alien race arrived at Earth. They conquered the world with their superior weapons and renamed it Pavfarah. Despite crushing initial losses, humanity formed an organized Resistance. Always on the run, they lived in abysmal conditions and used hit-and-run tactics to compensate for their limited numbers and technological disadvantages. After more than a decade of conflict, the Fentawnii tempted their ravaged population with beautiful cities, offering all the humans could possibly want through a proverbial olive branch. A significant amount of the Resistance took the bait, many for the sake of their offspring. Yet freedom is never free. Once ensnared, those humans quickly succumbed to the control of their benevolent tyrants. Almost every aspect of their lives became determined by the Fentawnii government.
In the present, the humans in the cities don’t know that the Resistance is fighting on their behalf. And the Fentawnii are not entirely unified; some sympathize with the humans. Then there’s the Humanii, a race born of these two species. They are the wild card, the perfect spies. They share intel with both sides, inflict sabotage, and are embedded in military roles. The Fentawnii leadership will do anything to asset dominance, and the Resistance will do anything to stop them. Yet changes are coming that neither side can predict or compensate for.

About the author
Allen Steadham is a nondenominational Christian. Happily interracially married since 1995 and the proud father of two sons and a daughter. He and his wife have been in the same Christian band since 1997. He plays electric bass, she plays strings, they both sing. It's all good.
