The third main character in Unto Dust: A Mindfire Prequel is a woman named Angela. She's also the supervillain Malevolence. A tricky character to write, it also made this song an interesting challenge for the same reason. Angela developed extremely strong telepathic powers that initially traumatized her enough for her to disassociate and form a new personality to control the powers.

That personality called herself Malevolence and this song is from her perspective not long after she came to be. The tie-in to the story is that she is Steve Hamilton(Crusader)'s ex-girlfriend.
